Child and Family Services Review (CFSR)

The Department is currently participating in California's CFSR review and will be hosting an on-site visit of federal and state reviewers from February 3 - 7, 2008. During the site visit, the reviewers will be conducting case reviews, interviewing clients, staff and service providers. Additionally, they will be holding over 20 stakeholder focus groups to help them assess systemic factors that are helping or hindering us in achieving improved outcomes for children and families.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services is authorized to review State Child and Family Service programs as part of the Social Security Act. This review, known as the Child and Family Services Review (CFSR), includes child protective services, foster care, adoption, family preservation, family support, and independent living. By identifying strengths and needs within State programs as well as areas where technical assistance can lead to program improvements, CFSR is designed to help States improve their child welfare services and outcomes for children and families who receive services.
